Trade Restrictions & Prohibitions Implemented in Indonesia

International trade is no doubt offering various advantages that can boost economic growth of the countries involved. But, on the other side, there are also inevitable negative impacts come with the trade of certain goods. For this reason, governments need to have control over those goods by implementing Restriction and Prohibition. In Indonesia, the measure is known as “Lartas”, shortened of Larangan dan Pembatasan.
Indonesia Customs is checking on imported and exported commodities subject to Lartas based on regulations of each products issued by different controlling institutions. Accordning to the regulations, special requirements of the restricted products must be provided either on import clearance proses (on-border) to the customs, or before distributing products to the local market (post-border) to the controlling institution .
Reasons for Lartas
Goods is subject to Lartas if they have any negative influences on one or more of following:
- National security and defense
- Human health
- Living environment
- Intelectual property right
- Industry, trade and monetary
- Culture and Heritage

Each of those commodities (Table 1. & 2.) have their respective Lartas regulations from controlling institutions (Table 3.) that specify what requirements or licenses for export and import.
